FMI is a research and service organization under the Ministry of Transport and Communications Finland. The main objective of FMI is to provide the Finnish society with the best possible information about the atmosphere in and around Finland. Climate change research of FMI (about 60 scientists) covers a wide spectrum of observational and theoretical topics. In climate and Earth system modeling, FMI has mainly concentrated on global modeling, and model development related to sub-grid scale effects of clouds, radiative transfer, and aerosols, as well as on land processes related boreal hydrology and soil organic carbon. FMI is a member of the COSMOS ESM Network. At FMI, less emphasis has been put on extensive production of climate simulations.
